Westaff is seeking a Legislative Assistant for a state office in Helena, MT!
Schedule: Full Time, M-F, 8am-5pm
Term: 3-6 months
Pay: $29.50-$37 DOE
Responsibilities:

Legislative Coordination and Support: Identifying, tracking, and monitoring the status of bills, policies, and amendments impacting the organization or industry. Monitoring decisioning, activity, and relevant details related to each item. Providing regular and on-demand updates regarding specific bills and legislation. Determine escalation for bill tracking and review. Track committee hearing dates, testimony needs, and timeliness. Communicate critical information and schedule routine check-ins for coordination related to legislative activities.

Initiative preparedness: Assisting and leading research and analysis on select policies, bills, and amendments. Crafting research or document preparation with informed recommendations. Prepare written and verbal documents or talking points related to the issues. Collaborate across the organization to collect required detailed information to prepare for engagement or discussions. Coordinate testimony efforts and participants and support testimony preparedness.

Stakeholder engagement: Drafting and editing correspondence, preparing briefings related to hearings and materials, and preparing stakeholders with critical information needed to support engagement related to initiatives. Coordinate stakeholder meetings, oversee and manage scheduling, and identify appropriate attendance. Track deadlines for legislative updates, processes, and issues. Communicate with business partners and community partners for participation and attendance to key meetings and events. Send follow up correspondence, appreciation notes, and data requests as needed. Prepare written, verbal, PowerPoint, packet, and agenda content.

Administrative Support: Attend meetings, compile and distribute notes and summaries, and deliver agendas and materials for meetings. Support transportation to capitol, coordinate timing of meetings and connections, and run errands to support organization representatives as needed. Order and deliver meals as appropriate, determine catering needs for in-office sessions, and support meeting or team administrative needs.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in business, political science, law, or a related field.

Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in legislative or community affairs.

OR a combination of education and experience.

Proficiency in managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Must demonstrate task prioritization and be able to support multiple people

Knowledge of legislative process preferred

Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Working conditions:
-
Fast paced general office environment and exposure to various client sites in both industrial and office settings.
-
Regular and overnight travel required within the state, in addition to travel around organizational specific events or during the course of employment.

Requires sitting for extended periods of time, standing, visual acumen, manual dexterity, detailed verbal communications and fine finger manipulation for working with computer keyboards.
