Westaff is recruiting for a Quality Control Technician for a great company in South Baton Rouge, LA
Shift: Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm
Pay: $17-20 an hour, temp to hire opportunity
Position Title: Quality Control Technician
Essential Functions and Duties:
1. Performs and/or monitors the sampling of deionized water; incoming chemicals, product containers, closures, and/or labels; work-in-progress materials; and finished products in accordance with the Aseptic Technique and current Good Manufacturing Practices (“cGMP”) Standard Operating Procedures (“SOPs”) promulgated by the Company.
2. Performs microbiological and physical-chemical analyses of deionized water, incoming chemical, work-in-progress material, and finished product samples in accordance with Quality Control Unit (“QCU”) and cGMP SOPs.
3. Performs inspections of incoming product container and closure samples to ensure that they are (i) free from defects in workmanship that would render them unacceptable for their intended use, (ii) clean and free from any filth, insect infestation, or other extraneous foreign materials that would cause adulteration of products placed in them, and (iii) if silk-screened or factory labeled, that the silk-screening or factory labels conform to the respective, approved labels on file in the Master Product Label File maintained by the Production Manager and documents and reports the findings of such inspections.
4. Performs inspections of incoming product container labels to ensure that they conform to the respective, approved labels on file in the Master Product Label File maintained by the Production Manager and documents and reports the findings of such inspections.
5. Identifies and appropriately labels chemicals, product containers, closures, and/or labels; work-in-progress materials; and finished products as “accepted” or “rejected” based on the results of the analyses of their respective samples.
6. Performs inspections of finished products to ensure that they are packaged in the correct containers and closures and labeled and marked properly.
7. Performs inspections and audits of the Company’s operations to ensure compliance with the cGMP SOPs and documents and reports the findings of such inspections and audits.
8. Ensures that the documents and reports of the findings of analyses, inspections, and audits performed are complete, validated (by signature) by the Quality Control Unit Supervisor (“QCUS”), and filed in their appropriate files/binders.
9. Collects, identifies, and properly stores reference samples.
10. Maintains the Quality Control Unit laboratory in a clean and orderly manner and ensures that it is stocked with all necessary supplies.
11. Maintains or provides for the maintenance of all laboratory equipment to ensure each is in proper working order at all times including, as necessary, their calibration.
12. Monitors and keeps temperature logs for all laboratory incubators, refrigerators and freezers.
13. Prepares all microbiological media needed for laboratory testing and routinely cultures pathogens on such media to ensure that they are substrates for the appropriate bacteria and yeast.
14. Collects, sterilizes and disposes of all biohazard materials generated by the QCU laboratory.
Qualifications:
a. Reasoning: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed and complex instructions and to deal with problems involving many variables.
b. Mathematics: Ability to perform basic math skills and use decimals to compute ratios and percents.
c. Language: Ability to use passive vocabulary of 5-6,000 words; read at a moderate rate; define unfamiliar words in dictionaries for meaning, spelling, and pronunciation; speak in simple sentences using correct subject-verb conjugation; and write simple sentences using proper punctuation.
d: Adaptability: Ability to accept constructive criticism; ability and willingness to be taught and to teach and train others.
Physical Activities and Requirements:
• Hand and Finger Dexterity: Ability to use hands and fingers to grasp and manipulate objects.
• Speech: Ability to convey detailed and important information and/or instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly.
• Hearing: Ability to hear within the normal range to engage in conversations and to receive instructions.
• Sight: Ability to see within normal parameters in order to inspect and prepare materials.
• Repetitive Motions: Ability to use wrists, hands, and/or fingers frequently, regularly, and repetitively in order to grasp and manipulate objects.
• Physical Strength: Ability to stand and lift, move, and manipulate objects of various sizes, shapes, and weight for extended periods of time. Routinely lifts containers weighing from 5 to 15 pounds. May exert up to fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally.
• Mobility: Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time.
Working Conditions: Conditioned laboratory space; unconditioned warehouse space.
Hazards: Exposure to some hazardous chemicals and pathogenic bacteria and yeast.
