Westaff is Hiring for a Shipping and Receiving Position in Putnam, CT!

Shift: Monday – Friday, 7am – 3:30pm 

Payrate: $18 – $20 an hour 

 

Shipper/Receiver Job Description:

As a Shipper/Receiver, you will oversee the efficient handling of incoming and outgoing shipments, as well as ensure the accuracy of inventory records. This role is critical to our operations, directly contributing to customer satisfaction through smooth shipping and receiving processes.

Shipper/Receiver Responsibilities:

• Receive incoming shipments, verify contents against purchase orders, and perform quality checks.
• Accurately pick, pack, and label items for outgoing shipments, following customer specifications.
• Coordinate with carriers and freight companies to ensure timely pickups and deliveries.
• Complete necessary documentation, such as bills of lading and customs forms, ensuring compliance with all regulations.
• Conduct regular inventory checks to reconcile received goods and identify any discrepancies.
• Safely pack, load, and unload shipments, using equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks to prevent product damage.
• Organize received goods efficiently to maximize warehouse space.
• Collaborate with the warehouse team to maintain smooth product flow and resolve any shipping or receiving issues.

Inventory Accuracy:

• Maintain accurate inventory records through timely data entry and updates in the warehouse management system.
• Perform regular cycle counts and physical inventory audits to identify and address discrepancies.
• Investigate and resolve inventory issues, working closely with various departments.
• Identify opportunities for process optimization and implement best practices for inventory management.

Shipper/Receiver Requirements:

• Previous experience in a shipping and receiving role, ideally in a fast-paced warehouse setting.
• Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
• Proficient in using warehouse management systems and inventory control software.
• Knowledge of shipping and receiving procedures, including bills of lading and customs documentation.
• Ability to safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment.
• Familiarity with inventory control methods, such as cycle counts and physical audits.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and the capability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
